In August 1949, then President Harry S. Truman announced that June 14^th would from then on be celebrated as Flag Day. Barre City celebrated June 14^th as Flag Day at the Gazebo Park, with ceremony of several speakers stating that our flag was not just a piece of cloth, but a symbol of liberty, justice, equality, tolerance and ideals. Commander/President of VFW 790 Fred Parsons led the ceremonies, Senator Bill Doyle was the key note speaker and the Barre-Tones provided patriotic songs about the flag.
