Changes from existing theme (perhaps decisions to be made):
For the record, I used free sheet music https://www.8notes.com/scores/10437.asp in header image.
Moved “Members” link to footer. Website admin login/logout in footer.
Pages default to having a sidebar. If desired, change to full width content (no sidebar). In Classic editor, this is found in the Layout Settings panel (below content), for example, Recent Pictures & Press. In Block editor, this is found under the “G” (Genesis) icon upper right, under Layout, for example, Photo page. (Then switch back to Settings icon.)
If a page has a featured image, or an image remaining from Thesis theme Multimedia Box Options, it will display above sidebar. If a page has no featured image, but has any image, this will duplicate above sidebar (action/tweaks needed).
I took the liberty of adding a Gallery to the Photo page that had been an empty draft. This is the first page done in the Block editor. When in the main content field, you can choose a gallery block, then upload or select images from the Media Library. Make sure each image is linked to its media file (larger version, this “may” happen automatically, maybe I missed a setting when I demonstrated). The lightbox swipes on mobile.
Decide whether you want to start blogging event photos and then set either a main blog page in Settings > Reading or use the photo-gallery category archive (page), https://barretonesvt.com/photo-gallery/, to display posts. Posts could be set to display just title and meta so as not to load a bunch of slide shows on same page. Or a “more” tag/block can be used. “Recent Posts” would want to be added to sidebar.
I demonstrated images/galleries on https://barretonesvt.com/photo/. I suggest you update https://barretonesvt.com/news/recent-pictures-press/ to Block editor and replace images that lead to attachment pages with a gallery that will open a lightbox.
I created two reusable blocks, one for donations and one for dues. These are really handy in the newer Block editor. Note: the donations panel in sidebar is not a reusable block.
I changed the Members Only Section page to “blocks” so I could install a reusable block at the bottom of the main column. If desired, check out the way my site is set up: https://www.madriverweb.com/service-terms-conditions-payment/. The “Buy Now” button is set up to “Allow my customers to enter their own product price” and the (required field) price is 0.00. But I don’t have a handy add the fee checkbox. If you are fine with the way it currently works, leave it.
Related: is your thank you page sufficiently universal to be used for donations, membership dues, and show sales? I mentioned you should put a “cancel” and “return” URL in PayPal.
Donations to our 501c3 are welcomed and appreciated!
Please test the things you normally do in the admin. Most things are the same. All of the content moves to new site seamlessly. Pages can be changed to draft, but be careful of instances of creating broken links such as singing telegram on home page. (The draft page displays when logged in.)
